Psychological Types is typically presented as a singular idea within one discipline. However, within that discipline, it can be discerned that there are three prevalent perspectives, or ethoi, in conveying the types. This session delves into these three different ethoi and relates them to the psychological types model, interspersed with interactive exercises to help attendees experience each of them and confront their differences. This presentation is academic in nature with cutting-edge content, so be prepared to immerse yourself in something that is philosophically challenging yet rewarding.

This session describes John Gottman’s contemporary research and his conception of the “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse,” with their disastrous impact on relationships. These “Horsemen” can be correlated with John Beebe and Jung’s work on archetypes. We will conduct a visualization to help participants come into relationship with their own experience of one of these “Horsemen,” and thereby capture it phenomenologically. Please bring paper and some art supplies—colored pencils or markers or crayons.
Vicky Jo Varner As an individuation coach, certified PCC by the International Coach Federation, Dr. Vicky Jo enjoys coaching people to identify and develop their natural typological strengths. With her PhD in Depth Psychology, she teaches Jung’s work at L.A.’s Philosophical Research Society.
This session is part of the AusAPT Online 2021 Conference. It’s just $100AU for AusAPT members, ILP members and APT reciprocal members and $150AU for guests for all 21 sessions.

Using psychological type and Jungian archetypes as a framework, we will reflect on the midlife journey through the parent and the orphan archetypes. Interactive exercises will examine how consciously giving voice to the challenges and opportunities involved in caring for yourself, children and elders can help you make connections between the archetypal stories and typological patterns that shape the wider culture(s) of which you are a part and your own style and experiences. Join us to discover how putting your story into words and images can be a source of inspiration for meaningful change, type development and healing at midlife.
