Using Type to Unlock Yours and Others’ Career Calling – Isabelle Peyrichoux

November 14, 2021 @ 11:45 am 12:45 pm Australia/Sydney

Isabelle has been using Types combined with Linda Berens’ Interaction Styles and Temperaments for 8 years in her career reinvention coaching to help her clients find their calling. The use of types has transformed her clients’ lives and careers at a significant level: finding alignment within themselves so that they can find alignment in their careers, and have a positive impact on the planet. When people do the work aligned with their unique blueprint (type), they contribute positively to the transformation of the planet and others’ lives. In this interactive session, Isabelle will share the unique framework she developed to coach her clients, how to use Type to effectively support career transformation, dos and don’ts, and case studies. Through lecture, group discussion, reflection, participants will learn how to apply this framework to their own career development as well as how to apply these methods for the facilitation of career reinvention and professional transformation.

Type & Stress: Your type and mind-body connections – Katie Jones

November 14, 2021 @ 10:15 am 11:15 am Australia/Sydney

Our minds and bodies are intricately connected, and our brain’s main job is to keep us alive and safe from threats. In this interactive workshop, we will use an understanding of both the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, as well as research about how the mind and body are connected, to better understand unique stressors and ways to proactively and reactively respond to stress through both of these tools.

Developing a deeper understanding of stressors and how to recover from stress is important for self-understanding, leadership, and growth, as well as a key to understanding others. Leaders at all levels can use this information to help create psychologically safer spaces for their teams, which Google’s Project Aristotle found as one of the keys to team success. Stress is inevitable, but it is not the end of the story!

Archetype & Type – Kesstan Blandin & Yvonne Nelson-Reid

November 14, 2021 @ 9:00 am 10:00 am Australia/Sydney

C.G. Jung’s theories of archetype and psychological type are seminal works underlying the psychic structure of personality in individuals. In this session, an analysis of a large correlational study with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) instrument and the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator (PMAI) assessment will be presented, analyzed, and discussed. We will attempt to weave theories (e.g., Jung, Hillman, Pearson, Beebe, Hunziker) with the empirical data to discover together how archetypes and psychological types complement, challenge, and deepen one another.

Kesstan Blandin

Kesstan Blandin, PhD is the VP, Research & Development for the Center for Applications of Psychological Type in Gainesville FL, where she oversees research for Jungian assessments on type (MBTI/MMTIC) and archetype (PMAI). For several years, Kesstan was an academic professor and researcher in a graduate psychology program at Pacifica Graduate Institute in CA and at the Dartmouth Centers for Health & Aging in NH. She has published on psychological type, archetypes, and dementia.

Yvonne Nelson-Reid

Yvonne Nelson-Reid, PhD, is the Senior Development Associate at the Center for Applications of Psychological Type (CAPT®), a mother of 5, writer, teacher, depth psychologist – Jungian and archetypal studies (MA, PhD), and career coach. Yvonne’s MA in Educational Research focused on Jungian theory where her thesis explored insights into the MBTI® assessment. As a certified MBTI® (master practitioner) and certified MMTIC® professional, she uses typology as a tool for helping others understand differences and communicate more effectively.

Gottman, Beebe, and Jung – Some Correlations – Vicky Jo Varner

November 13, 2021 @ 4:15 pm 5:15 pm Australia/Sydney

This session describes John Gottman’s contemporary research and his conception of the “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse,” with their disastrous impact on relationships. These “Horsemen” can be correlated with John Beebe and Jung’s work on archetypes. We will conduct a visualization to help participants come into relationship with their own experience of one of these “Horsemen,” and thereby capture it phenomenologically. Please bring paper and some art supplies—colored pencils or markers or crayons.

From Type to Psyche, Self and Soul – David Pool

November 13, 2021 @ 10:15 am 11:15 am Australia/Sydney

We will examine some of the psychological ideas related to Carl Jung’s dynamic model of the human psyche. Special attention will be paid to the place type plays in the current scholarly landscape. By critically examining different perspectives on the psyche, the soul, and the self we will attempt a fresh exploration of what type is with an aim to break free of habitual and ingrained assumptions, beliefs and dogmas.

In addition to examining questions like “what is type?”, “what is the role of the unconscious?” and “what is attitude?” we will explore the experience of pursuing a PhD in Jungian psychology. You may wonder how receptive Jungian and Archetypal psychology is to Type notions. The answer is a mixed bag. Finally we’ll touch upon some intriguing and controversial ideas about the difference between classification into categories and a structural functional model of the human psyche – moving from the typical to the unique.

David Pool

David Pool
David Pool has a Bachelors degree in Psychology and multiple type certifications. He is enrolled in the Depth, Jungian and Archetypal studies doctoral program at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpenteria California. This viewpoint into Jungian studies, the Type community, and mainstream academia grounds David’s viewpoint in three separate disciplines. David’s thesis is that an underlying psyche stands at the center of these three streams, his mission is to unite the different approaches while exercising a critical analytical approach.

Talking Theory Together – Richard Owen

November 12, 2021 @ 7:45 pm 8:45 pm Australia/Sydney

With a divergence of type theory between Jung, MBTI and many individual experts in the field, is there a way to create a cohesive revised narrative to carry type forward into its second century? Can we successfully reintegrate with mainstream personality psychology? How can type be reinterpreted and positioned in a way that makes it more acceptable to critics? Richard will discuss several key issues in type theory and some of his proposed solutions to them.

Friend or foe? The Inferior Function – Angelina Bennet

November 12, 2021 @ 7:45 pm 8:45 pm Australia/Sydney

The inferior function – sometimes called the 4th function – is one of the most fascinating aspects of our psyche. It is often overlooked as it does not feature in our type code and it tends to be regarded as the “not me” side of our personality. Yet it has an almost continuous presence in our everyday lives. Many people are familiar with Naomi Quenk’s ‘In the Grip’ theory, in which the inferior function erupts during stress; however, it makes its presence felt in many other situations, although we may not consciously be aware of it. In this session, I will invite the audience to consider the different roles that their inferior function takes in their lives, and how it can be a hindrance, a source of negative perception, a haven, a source of excitement, and a gateway for development.

Angelina Bennet

Angelina Bennet
Angelina is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Director of Type Pro, a Type practitioner’s training organisation, with over 20 years’ experience with Type. She is the author of The Shadows of Type: Psychological Type over seven Levels of Development, and is considered to be a thought-leader in the development of Type theory. Angelina has presented at many UK and International Type Conferences including BAPT, EAPT, APTi and AusApt. Type and Transgender: any relationship or implications? with Meredith Fuller, Gunilla Burrowes & Mark Toner

November 14, 2021 @ 9:00 am 10:00 am Australia/Sydney

Is transgender identity related to Type? What are the implications in career development of the T and F functions?

This session will be presented in 4 sections with plenty of interaction and input from the audience:
1) Can Type Theory predict and explain gender fluidity?
2) Looking at the Judging Function, what impact will the change in gender have on a trans person’s career after they have transitioned?
3) Is there any indication from Type Theory that would provide insight into a person’s motivation to transition or revert?
4) What can workplaces do to understand and support their transgender staff?

This session is presented by three Australian speakers:

Meredith Fuller

AusAPT Life Member Meredith Fuller is a psychologist and author with 35 years using Type, including the design and implementation of early accreditation training. Meredith has experience with transitioning and transgender clients and her psychologist step-uncle came from Holland to conduct the first ‘gender reassignment clinic’ in 1960’s Melbourne.

Gunilla Burrowes

Gunilla Burrowes is an electrical engineer with a broad range of industry and academic experience and is passionate about workplaces becoming more inclusive. She co-founded Gender Matters with Mark Toner 10 years ago which provides advice to organisations on gender issues and inclusive practices. Gunilla is an accredited Myers Briggs trainer.

Mark Toner

Mark Toner has an engineering, science and IT background.  A former CEO of an Australian engineering company, he has been a company director and management consultant for more than 20 years.
