SUMMARY:Traditions and Trends in Delivering Type Learning Events - Susan Nash
DESCRIPTION:Traditionally\, type learning events were held in-person. With the pandemic\, those assumptions were challenged and many type professionals have moved their learning and coaching practices to the virtual world. With the emergence from the pandemic\, we are faced with a unique opportunity to reframe how we deliver effective learning type interventions. To what extent can we combine in-person and virtual sessions? How might hybrid sessions work with remote and in-person participants? How can we optimise technology to streamline the learning experience and appeal to different learning styles? How can we change how we deliver in-person events to ensure maximum engagement and retention? \n\n\n\nIn this hands-on session\, participants will walk away with a wide variety of activities to add flexibility and relevance to type sessions together with a clearer understanding of the engagement skills required when facilitating adult\, active learning. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSusan Nash\n\n\n\nSusan Nash is owner of EM-Power a consulting firm which provides organizational development and training services to help businesses achieve results through optimization of people. EM-Power has been in business for 25 years. Susan Nash is author of Flawless Facilitation (published in 2019) as well as 11 other books 9 of which relate to personality type.) Susan is past president of APTi\, winner of the APTi 2017 President’s award and author of the Global Trainer Certification program\, winner of a Branden Hall Gold Award. \n\n\n\nThis session is a keynote session at the Time & Tide—Traditions and Trends in Type conference\, 7-9 October online. It is one of 17 sessions presented over 3 days\, all recorded in case you can’t attend live. It is $100AU for AusAPT members and other APT and ILP financial members and $150 for guests for the entire program. We hope you will join us. SUMMARY:Work-Life Balance\, Stress and the Process of Individuation—Mary McGuiness
DESCRIPTION:The individuation process is a term used by Carl Gustav Jung to describe the process of becoming inwardly whole\, discovering one’s true self\, beyond the mask of the persona and ego-centered life. Individuation generally has a profound healing effect on the person. It is a process that allows us to be our most creative and to fulfil the soul’s deepest desire. \n\n\n\nOur busy lives sometimes hinder our growth towards wholeness as the stress reduces our cognitive functioning and emotional intelligence. Work-Life Balance is essential in reducing stress and allowing the process of growth and individuation to occur. We will explore how research has suggested some ‘best practices’ that can help us to prevent stress and improve resilience so that we can function at our best. We will look at these practices and some suggestions Jung gave us on how to facilitate our own growth and individuation. \n\n\n\nMary McGuiness\n\n\n\nMary McGuiness\n\n\n\nMary McGuiness ENFP has 30 years experience teaching personality theory and training professionals to use the MBTI instrument and MajorsPTI. Mary offers certification in the MajorsPTI and Step II and applications of type theory. She is Director of the Institute for Type Development\, a national training organisation established in 1986. Mary served on the National Committee of AusAPT for 10 years\, with two years as National President. She is author of several books and resources including the best-seller You’ve Got Personality. \n\n\n\nThis is a session at the Time & Tide—Traditions and Trends in Type conference\, 7-9 October online. SUMMARY:Type and Music Preferences—Ian Ball
DESCRIPTION:There are many reasons why particular pieces of music attract us and why we go back to those preferences. There are also reasons why particular styles of music are ones we avoid or find unbearable. \n\n\n\nIn 2006 Elwin Hall and I conducted a workshop at the AusAPT conference exploring these ideas and looked for linkages between one’s preferred type and one’s preferences for music. \n\n\n\nThis new session for the conference on Time & Tide: Traditions and Trends in Type reviews the research conducted since then and serves as an update on this theme. The new evidence gives much more confidence about the relationships. There has been a reconceptualisation about music preferences and this will be explained in the session. \n\n\n\nIt is hoped that participants will have a greater appreciation of the linkages between type and preferences for music with particular attributes. \n\n\n\nIan Ball\n\n\n\nIan Ball\n\n\n\nIan is a retired Associate Professor from Deakin University. His specialisations were Psychology and Education. He is a Life Member of AusAPT and also a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society. \n\n\n\nThis is a session at the Time & Tide—Traditions and Trends in Type conference\, 7-9 October online. SUMMARY:Underutilized Oppositions in the Lenses We Use—Sterling Bates
DESCRIPTION:Underutilized Oppositions in the Lenses We Use: Essential Motivators and Interaction Styles with Sterling Bates \n\n\n\nA talk about an underutilized resource in the world of psychological type\, the 6 dynamics from Essential Motivators (Temperament) and Interaction Styles. They are powerful both in helping you flex to meet someone else’s needs and to discover points of commonality. For example\, every Essential Motivator has both a dynamic that aligns with and two dynamics where they are opposing with the other three Essential Motivators. Like Polarity Thinking\, a key to using dynamics is knowing when it is the right time to flex\, and when it is the right time to rely on your naturally preferred dynamic. \n\n\n\nIn this session\, I will familiarize attendees with the dynamics; those unfamiliar will get a great grounding in the dynamics; and provide tips and tricks attendees can use themselves as well as activities to use in their personal life and with clients. This will include uses in whole type best-fit\, communication\, work problems\, delegation\, Situational Leadership®\, and relationship issues. \n\n\n\nSterling Bates\n\n\n\nSterling Bates\n\n\n\nSterling’s combination of technology\, mathematics\, business\, marketing\, OD and psychological type led him to found Step Research\, a psychology software company. Previously at Disney for 13 years in IT and Marketing; and on the APTi board for 4 years. \n\n\n\nThis is a session at the Time & Tide—Traditions and Trends in Type conference\, 7-9 October online. SUMMARY:Against the Tide: Repositioning the 8 Functions in Psychology—Richard Owen
DESCRIPTION:Since C.G. Jung first described his 8 types of mental processing over 100 years ago\, they were at first neglected\, then later taken up again and developed by type theorists and practitioners. However as Jung’s work was widely disregarded by mainstream psychology academia\, there has been little reconciliation between type theory and areas such as cognitive psychology or modern consciousness studies. In this presentation Richard will share some ideas from his ongoing work on identifying analogous concepts relating to the 8 functions\, in an effort towards reintegrating type and the mainstream. \n\n\n\nRichard Owen\n\n\n\nRichard Owen\n\n\n\nBAPT Treasurer Richard Owen is an organisational psychologist and coach based in Brighton\, UK. A broad theorist of Type: from Jung to MBTI®\, to the depth typology of Dr John Beebe. Richard’s Personality Parts™ model aims to uniquely integrate these & many other perspectives. \n\n\n\nThis is a session at the Time & Tide—Traditions and Trends in Type conference\, 7-9 October online. In this session we will review theories of midlife from the type perspective\, consider the possible accelerating impact of the pandemic\, and consider how to craft the life we want for ourselves. \n\n\n\nAfter reviewing some of the theories of Type Development\, particularly around midlife\, we will take a look at the facts that influence our midlife development. With the opportunity to have some small group discussions\, participants will be able to share experiences and thoughts on the mid-life stage. SUMMARY:Temperament: Tradition or Trend? - Catherine Stothart
DESCRIPTION:Temperament: Tradition or Trend? Bringing Temperament up to date for 21st Century Leaders \n\n\n\nThirty years ago\, few people talked of emotional intelligence\, neuroscience\, positive psychology\, or mental well-being. Now there is widespread interest in popular psychology\, and people are much more aware of their psychological needs. \n\n\n\nThirty years ago\, leaders in organisations could operate in a command and control way. Now millennials want their leaders to be empathic. The role of the leader-manager is now less an overseer of task completion and more an enabler of self-motivation. \n\n\n\nIn this context\, temperament – which explains why we do what we do – is the perfect tool to enable leaders to lead their team to fulfil their purpose and potential. SUMMARY:Cognitive Functions and Enneagram: Complementary Power - Teodora Paucean
DESCRIPTION:This session promotes the usage of type (cognitive functions) and Enneagram together\, as two systems that can complement each other beautifully in the process of improving emotional well-being\, as well as relational and professional satisfaction. Both theoretical concepts and practical implications will be covered. \n\n\n\nThe presentation will first focus on describing theoretical ideas related to both cognitive functions and Enneagram and then\, it will explore the interplay between these two systems in one’s personal development journey. Case studies will be presented to illustrate how people with the same four-letter code might take a different approach in their personal development journey if they have a different Enneagram type. \n\n\n\nThe last 15 minutes of the session will be dedicated to discussion and questions. \n\n\n\nTeodora Paucean\n\n\n\nTeodora Paucean\n\n\n\nTeodora Paucean is a personal development coach and trainer with a focus on self-discovery and self-awareness. SUMMARY:Doing the Parenting Dance with Elizabeth Murphy\, Mollie Allen & Erin Smith
DESCRIPTION:When parents first learn they are going to have a baby images of the child begin to form. Visions of playing and learning together are almost always positive. When the child arrives these hopes and dreams begin to be realized. Then the child walks and talks and has a mind of his own. Now the real job of parenting begins as the parents adjust their preconceived images to match the child and the child learns to manage his energies to develop into all he can be. This is the parenting dance everyone does\, but the rhythms and tones are different for each parent/child combination. \n\n\n\nThis workshop explores common developmental challenges all children face and how type can play a part in the experience for the parent/child combination. After looking at the issue (such as the quest for independence at adolescence) educators will give examples of how this was expressed in the classroom and offer hints for working with the different types. Come enjoy a glimpse into the parenting dance with type differences for a few selected developmental milestones. \n\n\n\nAs part of our Type & Life Series\, this event is online via Zoom\, free and open to all. \n\n\n\nYou are invited to a Zoom meeting. When: Sep 18\, 2022 10:00 AM Canberra\, Melbourne\, Sydney \n\n\n\nRegister in advance for this meeting:https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYuf-Cvrj8oHtNrGC7q33HCPYo8CqHCf4S5 \n\n\n\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \n\n\n\nAbout the presenters\n\n\n\nElizabeth Murphy \n\n\n\nElizabeth Murphy (INFP) is a psychologist who has worked with type concepts since the early 1980s. She is the mother of four adult children. \n\n\n\nMollie Allen\n\n\n\nErin Smith \n\n\n\nErin brings to the table more than 15 years of experience teaching and using type with adolescents.  Her use of type in understanding students\, communicating with students\, and lesson preparation for different types has resulted in her being selected as a primary mentor every year.  The top 20 academic students identify one person who was especially helpful in mentoring the student academically or personally.  They write an essay about the person and celebrate at a dinner that honors the recipients. She was identified every year for the last 15 years\, confirming her support for students and their success.  In 2021 she was selected by the entire senior class as their most respected teacher.  Her examples of what seems to work and not work with students of the different types is a basic element for this recognition.  She also has two children of her own who have contributed to her understanding of working with type differences. \n\n\n\nErin Smith\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPhoPhoto by Rene Bernal on Unsplash

SUMMARY:Personality\, Type and other labels—What do they mean; what do they stand for? A Discussion with Peter Geyer
DESCRIPTION:The language of personality\, however presented\, can be a minefield of meaning and use\, essentially because there are no agreed definitions\, interpretations\, or perspectives\, even in the niche field of psychological type. C.G. Jung chose general language for his constructs\, a decision he later reflected on somewhat ruefully; what he meant in particular instances seems to have fallen by the wayside. \n\n\n\nSo\, what is Personality? What is a Type\, or a Function? How does Type relate to behaviour\, interest or skill. Is Type neoliberal\, whether we like it or not? Can there a Type response to pandemics\, or conspiracy theories? These questions\, and any others that turn up are the focus of a presentation by Peter Geyer\, in a casual informal setting. \n\n\n\nPeter Geyer\n\n\n\nPeter Geyer has researched\, taught and written about psychological type and related ideas for over 30 years. A former MBTI® and Majors Accrediter\, he is the Custodian of AusAPT’s Type Research and Practice Collection. \n\n\n\nJoin us from 6:30pm for 7pm at Epicentre\, the home of Meredith Fuller & Brian Walsh \n\n\n\nRSVP by 1st July to Meredith Fuller by email meredithfuller56@gmail.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPhoto by Aaron Burden on Unsplash

SUMMARY:Climate Change and Environmental Concerns: What Can I Do as an Individual and What Difference Could It Make?
DESCRIPTION:We are the first generation to feel the sting of climate change\, and we are the last generation that can do something about it. Are people’s responses and activities to the issue of climate change and environmental concerns related to Type? Are there Sensing and Intuitive differences? You are invited to a discussion following short talks by 3 engaging guests.Professor Matthew Cuthbertson\, Chair\, Victorian Clean Tech fund (boutique venture capital fund)  Working in innovation at several universities\, Matt is involved in many scientific committees and brings big picture observations. Graeme Joyce\, Managing Director Soilcharge\,  the value of biological soil for our environment Australian soils are generally fragile\, depleted and mineral poor.  Long term use of chemical solutions is simply not working.Chemicals such as superphosphate tend to decrease the pH in soil that naturally tends to be acidic\, and as soil becomes more acidic minerals are locked up\, biology becomes dormant or dies\, and farm or garden yield decrease. What we need to do is work with the soil by adding the conditions that will allow the soil to remain in a pH band that allows for plant growth\, with the minerals and elements that will support microbial and bacteria life.Once we do this it is easy to maintain a positive and profitable growing environment.Ian MacCallum\, a concerned Australian citizen with an IT background (originally from Canada) who has previously been involved in climate activism\, aware of basic things we all can do to empower ourselves but also recognises the incredible difficulty in making a lasting difference. “I recognise that doing nothing is tantamount to admitting defeat. I think it’s better to be doing something rather than wringing our hands in despair. It’s important that people feel empowered in some way. I refer to the old adage\, ‘Every Vote Counts!’  “A portion of the speakers’ comments will be filmed for a short YouTubePlease bring a PLATE or BOTTLE to share over afternoon teaRSVP to Meredith Fuller as soon as possible via email meredithfuller56@gmail.com (to help with Covid safety protocols)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPhoto by Sincerely Media on Unsplash \n\n\n\nFeature photo by Li-An Lim on Unsplash

SUMMARY:Practical Applications of Jung's Theory and the Eight Mental Processes in a World of Remote Work
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Cynthia S. Paris\, President\, The People Skills Group\n\n\n\nJoin us for a free two hour workshop with Cindy Paris in the first of our Sunday Series events in 2022. \n\n\n\nAs practitioners\, we are learning more and more that the gold\, the real power\, of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator\, comes from the theory behind the instrument\, Psychological Types. However\, as practitioners\, we are often challenged to teach and practically apply Jung’s Eight Functions (Mental Processes\, Cognitive Processes) with teams and leaders when participants are used to thinking in terms of the 4-letters of Type and MBTI Preferences. This is especially true in a world where many teams are working remotely and there is a lot to achieve in a short time frame. \n\n\n\nIn this program\, participants will learn how to introduce Jung’s theoretical framework and the mental processes through quick and easy techniques and exercises using our road tested and vetted tools for integrating the 8 Jungian Functions into applications. We will introduce how to adapt and facilitate these exercises (some of which are well-known and quite often used\, like the Z-Problem solving model) with remote teams using Zoom breakout rooms and third-party applications. \n\n\n\nParticipants will walk away with handouts and fresh ideas for facilitating Psychological Types for effective teamwork and leadership development in our new\, and often remote\, world of work. \n\n\n\n\nRegister to attend via Zoom\n\n\n\n\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Join us from 9:45am AEDT/Sydney/Melbourne to network and settle in. Check your local time and note that whilst this is a Sunday series\, it will be Saturday\, the day before\, for US and Canada. The session will be recorded and the link to watch the replay sent to those who register. \n\n\n\nAbout Cindy Paris\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCindy Paris is a Master Facilitator\, Consultant\, and Coach\, nationally recognized as a thought leader in the world of the Myers-Briggs Assessment and Psychological Type. As an MBTI® Master Practitioner and former MBTI Certification trainer for the publisher of the instrument\, she is an expert in the application of Psychological Type to enhance individual\, team and leadership development and performance. Cindy is also credentialed in a myriad of team and leadership assessments and models including the leading Emotional Intelligence Testing tool\, the EQ-I 2.0\, and the cutting-edge models of Conversational Intelligence and the 4 Stages of Psychological Safety which are based in social neuroscience. \n\n\n\nCindy founded her company\, The People Skills Group\, with the sole purpose of helping people develop the people skills to work better together – to build cultures of team trust – where people are valued and allowed to contribute the talents they bring to the table. Cindy has been facilitating and coaching teams and leaders to meet their goals since 2001.Cindy learned from the best; she studied under the late Katharine D. Myers\, former Director Emeritus of the Myers-Briggs® Foundation and co-owner of the MBTI® Assessment. For years\, Cindy worked with Katharine by writing and editing her personal website and co-authoring numerous articles for the APTi Bulletin of Psychological Type. She has developed a distinctive approach to Type which calls on her proprietary suite of products based on the Eight Jungian Function Image Metaphor Cards suite of products. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \n\n\n\n\n\nFeature Photo by Kristin Wilson on Unsplash

SUMMARY:Depth Typology – Exploring Beebe’s ideas with Ian Ball
DESCRIPTION:Summary: \n\n\n\nThe workshop draws on Mark Hunziker’s book Depth Typology. We will look at the way the eight archetypes affect how the eight function-attitudes are expressed within an individual psyche. We will do some exercises about the sixteen types that illustrate why we sometimes feel drawn to or have potential conflict issues with people of differing type preferences. We will explore the ideas about the significance of one’s shadow type and one’s opposite type. \n\n\n\nAbout Ian Ball: \n\n\n\nIan is a Life Member of AusAPT and managed the Psychological Type Research Unit for 22 years. He has published research on type in both Australian and International journals and at conferences. A major project was the creation of a model of the distribution of types in the Australian working population using census data. He is a retired Associate Professor from Deakin University\, and is a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society. \n\n\n\nIan Ball\n\n\n\nThis is an in person event in Melbourne. \n\n\n\nTo book for the event: \n\n\n\nContact AusAPT at info@ausapt.org.au or Meredith Fuller directly. \n\n\n\n\n\n$10 payable on the day for non-members.

SUMMARY:Sharing your Knowledge in a Podcasting and YouTube World - Joel Mark Witt & Antonia Dodge
DESCRIPTION:The internet is forcing type communities to change & grow… fast. \n\n\n\nOn one side of the type community we see a seasoned generation of type professionals who have spent years refining their knowledge & wisdom. On the other side are young people eager to express and share their newly discovered love of type on every major social media platform. \n\n\n\nYoung people are excited about type & want to talk about it on podcasts\, YouTube videos\, and Facebook posts. But often these new “influencers” are unaware that typology is a mature discipline with years of research\, development\, and commerce baked into its ethos. \n\n\n\nHow do we preserve what has come before while adapting to the changing new media landscape? \n\n\n\nIn this presentation Joel & Antonia guide us through the practical steps they’ve used to bridge this gap. As podcast hosts\, they will peel back the curtain of new media to showcase ideas you can use in your practice whether you are just getting started or have been teaching type for decades. \n\n\n\nJoel Mark Witt & Antonia Dodge\n\n\n\nJoel Mark Witt & Antonia Dodge Joel Mark Witt and Antonia Dodge are authors\, podcasters\, entrepreneurs\, personal development coaches\, and personality typology experts who have consulted with companies like Amazon\, Zappos\, Oracle\, American Express\, CNN\, and many others. They live in the United States. \n\n\n\n\nThis session is part of the AusAPT Online 2021 Conference. \n\n\n\nIt’s just $100AU for current financial AusAPT members\, APT and ILP members and $150AU for guests – for all 21 sessions. \n\n\n\nYou can find the full conference program and details here: \n\n\n\n\n\nAusAPT 2021 Online Program + Booking info\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPhoto by Tommy Lopez from Pexels

SUMMARY:Talking Type Together with your Vital Relationships - Sterling Bates
DESCRIPTION:Scientific studies continue to show that the biggest impact on life satisfaction and happiness is our vital relationships and core social bonds. Medical studies show relationship strength as a major factor in long term health outcomes. Learn what some of this research has to say about the crucial importance of relationships. We will cover multiple models\, both psychological type models and other relationship-related tools from outside the psychological type space. We will highlight which models offer insights for relationships and also cover which models and strategies don’t work well for building strong relationships. Attendees will get key tools and tips on how to use the different models to help their own relationships and further\, help those they care about\, or their clients in their relationships too. \n\n\n\nSterling Bates\n\n\n\nSterling Bates \n\n\n\nSterling has worked with personality and social psychology both personally and professionally for more than fifteen years. SUMMARY:Type & Stress: Your type and mind-body connections - Katie Jones
DESCRIPTION:Our minds and bodies are intricately connected\, and our brain’s main job is to keep us alive and safe from threats. In this interactive workshop\, we will use an understanding of both the Myers Briggs Type Indicator\, as well as research about how the mind and body are connected\, to better understand unique stressors and ways to proactively and reactively respond to stress through both of these tools. \n\n\n\nDeveloping a deeper understanding of stressors and how to recover from stress is important for self-understanding\, leadership\, and growth\, as well as a key to understanding others. Leaders at all levels can use this information to help create psychologically safer spaces for their teams\, which Google’s Project Aristotle found as one of the keys to team success. Stress is inevitable\, but it is not the end of the story! \n\n\n\nKatie Jones\n\n\n\nKatie Jones \n\n\n\nKatie is a MBTI Master Practitioner\, coaching teams and leaders for 10 years. After earning two graduate degrees from Columbia University\, teaching\, leading high-performing teams\, and working in the non-profit education space\, Katie founded KJ Consulting Group\, which continues to serve local and national organizations across the U.S. To support an ever-changing world as we navigate the pandemic\, in 2020 Katie created the Myers Briggs: Beyond the Letters course\, as well as a Mind-Body Journal to help navigate stress using mind-body connections. \n\n\n\n\nThis session is part of the AusAPT Online 2021 Conference. SUMMARY:Archetype & Type - Kesstan Blandin & Yvonne Nelson-Reid
DESCRIPTION:C.G. Jung’s theories of archetype and psychological type are seminal works underlying the psychic structure of personality in individuals. In this session\, an analysis of a large correlational study with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) instrument and the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator (PMAI) assessment will be presented\, analyzed\, and discussed. We will attempt to weave theories (e.g.\, Jung\, Hillman\, Pearson\, Beebe\, Hunziker) with the empirical data to discover together how archetypes and psychological types complement\, challenge\, and deepen one another. \n\n\n\nKesstan BlandinYvonne Nelson-Reid\n\n\n\nKesstan Blandin \n\n\n\nKesstan Blandin\, PhD is the VP\, Research & Development for the Center for Applications of Psychological Type in Gainesville FL\, where she oversees research for Jungian assessments on type (MBTI/MMTIC) and archetype (PMAI). For several years\, Kesstan was an academic professor and researcher in a graduate psychology program at Pacifica Graduate Institute in CA and at the Dartmouth Centers for Health & Aging in NH. She has published on psychological type\, archetypes\, and dementia. \n\n\n\nYvonne Nelson-Reid \n\n\n\nYvonne Nelson-Reid\, PhD\, is the Senior Development Associate at the Center for Applications of Psychological Type (CAPT®)\, a mother of 5\, writer\, teacher\, depth psychologist – Jungian and archetypal studies (MA\, PhD)\, and career coach. Yvonne’s MA in Educational Research focused on Jungian theory where her thesis explored insights into the MBTI® assessment. As a certified MBTI® (master practitioner) and certified MMTIC® professional\, she uses typology as a tool for helping others understand differences and communicate more effectively.  \n\n\n\n\nThis session is part of the AusAPT Online 2021 Conference.
