SUMMARY:Midlife Development: A Crisis? A Crash? Or a Cruise? - Angelina Bennet
DESCRIPTION:Midlife is a time when many of us take stock of our life and think about what we want for our future. In this session we will review theories of midlife from the type perspective\, consider the possible accelerating impact of the pandemic\, and consider how to craft the life we want for ourselves. \n\n\n\nAfter reviewing some of the theories of Type Development\, particularly around midlife\, we will take a look at the facts that influence our midlife development. With the opportunity to have some small group discussions\, participants will be able to share experiences and thoughts on the mid-life stage. In the final part\, I will present some ideas about how to coach or develop clients who are already well developed and who may be questioning their career paths and their purpose in life. \n\n\n\nAngelina Bennet\n\n\n\nAngelina Bennet\n\n\n\nAngelina is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and specializes in developing individuals through personality work. SUMMARY:Temperament: Tradition or Trend? - Catherine Stothart
DESCRIPTION:Temperament: Tradition or Trend? Bringing Temperament up to date for 21st Century Leaders \n\n\n\nThirty years ago\, few people talked of emotional intelligence\, neuroscience\, positive psychology\, or mental well-being. Now there is widespread interest in popular psychology\, and people are much more aware of their psychological needs. \n\n\n\nThirty years ago\, leaders in organisations could operate in a command and control way. Now millennials want their leaders to be empathic. The role of the leader-manager is now less an overseer of task completion and more an enabler of self-motivation. \n\n\n\nIn this context\, temperament – which explains why we do what we do – is the perfect tool to enable leaders to lead their team to fulfil their purpose and potential. Catherine’s approach to temperament links our core psychological needs to the essential leadership capabilities of engaging\, developing\, delegating and connecting. In this session she will share a practical toolkit to enable leaders to motivate their teams\, improve their well-being and feel motivated themselves. \n\n\n\nCatherine Stothart\n\n\n\nCatherine Stothart\n\n\n\nCatherine Stothart is a Leadership Coach with 30 years’ experience in top multi-national companies – currently Airbus and Google. She uses personality type in her work and brings the best thinking about communication and motivation to a wider audience in a way that makes it usable and actionable. Her 2018 book\, published by Pearson\, How to Get On with Anyone\, is based on Interaction Styles. Her second book\, Motivation: The Ultimate Guide to Leading your Team\, published by Routledge\, comes out in 2022 and is based on temperament. \n\n\n\nThis is a session at the Time & Tide—Traditions and Trends in Type conference\, 7-9 October online. It is one of 17 sessions presented over 3 days\, all recorded in case you can’t attend live. It is $100AU for AusAPT members and other APT and ILP financial members and $150 for guests for the entire program. We hope you will join us. SUMMARY:Cognitive Functions and Enneagram: Complementary Power - Teodora Paucean
DESCRIPTION:This session promotes the usage of type (cognitive functions) and Enneagram together\, as two systems that can complement each other beautifully in the process of improving emotional well-being\, as well as relational and professional satisfaction. Both theoretical concepts and practical implications will be covered. \n\n\n\nThe presentation will first focus on describing theoretical ideas related to both cognitive functions and Enneagram and then\, it will explore the interplay between these two systems in one’s personal development journey. Case studies will be presented to illustrate how people with the same four-letter code might take a different approach in their personal development journey if they have a different Enneagram type. \n\n\n\nThe last 15 minutes of the session will be dedicated to discussion and questions. \n\n\n\nTeodora Paucean\n\n\n\nTeodora Paucean\n\n\n\nTeodora Paucean is a personal development coach and trainer with a focus on self-discovery and self-awareness. SUMMARY:Sharing your Knowledge in a Podcasting and YouTube World - Joel Mark Witt & Antonia Dodge
DESCRIPTION:The internet is forcing type communities to change & grow… fast. \n\n\n\nOn one side of the type community we see a seasoned generation of type professionals who have spent years refining their knowledge & wisdom. On the other side are young people eager to express and share their newly discovered love of type on every major social media platform. \n\n\n\nYoung people are excited about type & want to talk about it on podcasts\, YouTube videos\, and Facebook posts. But often these new “influencers” are unaware that typology is a mature discipline with years of research\, development\, and commerce baked into its ethos. \n\n\n\nHow do we preserve what has come before while adapting to the changing new media landscape? \n\n\n\nIn this presentation Joel & Antonia guide us through the practical steps they’ve used to bridge this gap. As podcast hosts\, they will peel back the curtain of new media to showcase ideas you can use in your practice whether you are just getting started or have been teaching type for decades. \n\n\n\nJoel Mark Witt & Antonia Dodge\n\n\n\nJoel Mark Witt & Antonia Dodge Joel Mark Witt and Antonia Dodge are authors\, podcasters\, entrepreneurs\, personal development coaches\, and personality typology experts who have consulted with companies like Amazon\, Zappos\, Oracle\, American Express\, CNN\, and many others. SUMMARY:Type & Stress: Your type and mind-body connections - Katie Jones
DESCRIPTION:Our minds and bodies are intricately connected\, and our brain’s main job is to keep us alive and safe from threats. In this interactive workshop\, we will use an understanding of both the Myers Briggs Type Indicator\, as well as research about how the mind and body are connected\, to better understand unique stressors and ways to proactively and reactively respond to stress through both of these tools. \n\n\n\nDeveloping a deeper understanding of stressors and how to recover from stress is important for self-understanding\, leadership\, and growth\, as well as a key to understanding others. Leaders at all levels can use this information to help create psychologically safer spaces for their teams\, which Google’s Project Aristotle found as one of the keys to team success. Stress is inevitable\, but it is not the end of the story! \n\n\n\nKatie Jones\n\n\n\nKatie Jones \n\n\n\nKatie is a MBTI Master Practitioner\, coaching teams and leaders for 10 years. After earning two graduate degrees from Columbia University\, teaching\, leading high-performing teams\, and working in the non-profit education space\, Katie founded KJ Consulting Group\, which continues to serve local and national organizations across the U.S. To support an ever-changing world as we navigate the pandemic\, in 2020 Katie created the Myers Briggs: Beyond the Letters course\, as well as a Mind-Body Journal to help navigate stress using mind-body connections. \n\n\n\n\nThis session is part of the AusAPT Online 2021 Conference. SUMMARY:Archetype & Type - Kesstan Blandin & Yvonne Nelson-Reid
DESCRIPTION:C.G. Jung’s theories of archetype and psychological type are seminal works underlying the psychic structure of personality in individuals. In this session\, an analysis of a large correlational study with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) instrument and the Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator (PMAI) assessment will be presented\, analyzed\, and discussed. We will attempt to weave theories (e.g.\, Jung\, Hillman\, Pearson\, Beebe\, Hunziker) with the empirical data to discover together how archetypes and psychological types complement\, challenge\, and deepen one another. \n\n\n\nKesstan BlandinYvonne Nelson-Reid\n\n\n\nKesstan Blandin \n\n\n\nKesstan Blandin\, PhD is the VP\, Research & Development for the Center for Applications of Psychological Type in Gainesville FL\, where she oversees research for Jungian assessments on type (MBTI/MMTIC) and archetype (PMAI). For several years\, Kesstan was an academic professor and researcher in a graduate psychology program at Pacifica Graduate Institute in CA and at the Dartmouth Centers for Health & Aging in NH. She has published on psychological type\, archetypes\, and dementia. \n\n\n\nYvonne Nelson-Reid \n\n\n\nYvonne Nelson-Reid\, PhD\, is the Senior Development Associate at the Center for Applications of Psychological Type (CAPT®)\, a mother of 5\, writer\, teacher\, depth psychologist – Jungian and archetypal studies (MA\, PhD)\, and career coach. Yvonne’s MA in Educational Research focused on Jungian theory where her thesis explored insights into the MBTI® assessment. As a certified MBTI® (master practitioner) and certified MMTIC® professional\, she uses typology as a tool for helping others understand differences and communicate more effectively.  \n\n\n\n\nThis session is part of the AusAPT Online 2021 Conference. SUMMARY:Stress and Resilience in the World of Covid-19 - Mary McGuiness
DESCRIPTION:The world has experienced enormous change and stress in 2020 and 2021. Covid-19 has impacted on our personal lives\, family life\, work life\, social life and\, for some\, our physical and/or emotional health. People have responded in many different ways. Type theory suggests that each type will experience the stress differently and will likely use different strategies to cope. Let’s explore how the changes have impacted on us to see what impact personality type has had. We will also look more broadly at what Jung and type can tell us about stress and resilience. What does the theory say about stress for each type? And\, more importantly\, how do we take care of ourselves\, and each other\, so that we keep some balance in our lives and can learn something from the experience. \n\n\n\nMary McGuiness\n\n\n\nMary McGuiness  Mary McGuiness ENFP has 30 years experience teaching personality theory and training professionals to use the MBTI instrument and the MajorsPTI. She currently offers certification in the MajorsPTI instrument. Mary is Director of the Institute for Type Development\, a national training organisation established in 1986. She served on the National Committee of AusAPT for 10 years\, with two years as National President. Mary is author of several books and resources including the best-seller\, You’ve Got Personality\, and is a regular speaker. \n\n\n\n\nThis session is part of the AusAPT Online 2021 Conference. \n\n\n\nIt’s just $100AU for current financial AusAPT members\, APT and ILP members and $150AU for guests for all 21 sessions. \n\n\n\nYou can find the full conference program and details here: \n\n\n\n\n\nAusAPT 2021 Online Program + Ticket info\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPhoto by energepic.com from Pexels

SUMMARY:Type Development: 10 Things You Must Do (If you are serious) - Roger Pearman
DESCRIPTION:Type development is about knowing your type pattern and being able to identify and access those functions on which you don’t regularly rely. While identifying these functions (Si\, Se\, Ni\, Ne\, Ti\, Te\, Fi\, Fe) is cognitively easy\, accessing and using them requires more work. This presentation will look at 10 tactics from a variety of sources which will enable the participant to explore all of the type functions for development to boost psychological agility. SUMMARY:Type and Stress: Your Type and Mind-Body Connections - Katie Jones
\n\n\n\nKatie Jones\n\n\n\nKatie JonesKatie is a MBTI Master Practitioner\, coaching teams and leaders for 10 years. SUMMARY:From Type to Psyche\, Self and Soul - David Pool
DESCRIPTION:We will examine some of the psychological ideas related to Carl Jung’s dynamic model of the human psyche. Special attention will be paid to the place type plays in the current scholarly landscape. By critically examining different perspectives on the psyche\, the soul\, and the self we will attempt a fresh exploration of what type is with an aim to break free of habitual and ingrained assumptions\, beliefs and dogmas. \n\n\n\nIn addition to examining questions like “what is type?”\, “what is the role of the unconscious?” and “what is attitude?” we will explore the experience of pursuing a PhD in Jungian psychology. You may wonder how receptive Jungian and Archetypal psychology is to Type notions. The answer is a mixed bag. Finally we’ll touch upon some intriguing and controversial ideas about the difference between classification into categories and a structural functional model of the human psyche – moving from the typical to the unique. \n\n\n\nDavid Pool\n\n\n\nDavid PoolDavid Pool has a Bachelors degree in Psychology and multiple type certifications. He is enrolled in the Depth\, Jungian and Archetypal studies doctoral program at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpenteria California. This viewpoint into Jungian studies\, the Type community\, and mainstream academia grounds David’s viewpoint in three separate disciplines. David’s thesis is that an underlying psyche stands at the center of these three streams\, his mission is to unite the different approaches while exercising a critical analytical approach. \n\n\n\n\nThis session is part of the AusAPT Online 2021 Conference. SUMMARY:Four Flavors of Type - Dario Nardi
DESCRIPTION:What flavor of your type are you?Having an answer can make a difference. Some people really puzzle over their best-fit type. Or\, they feel unusual for their type\, perhaps as a result of upbringing or type development. Or\, they are making a career change and want extra advice. What’s the saying\, “Every ENFP is like every other ENFP\, like some other ENFPs\, and like no other ENFP.” Some differences are small\, and some really matter.Lately\, research is coming together on flavors of type. Neuroscience data supports that people use their brains in ways that meet their type preferences. They also develop in ways that reflect their cultural upbringing\, career choice\, and more. These brain differences sort into clusters or as 4 cardinal points around a wheel. We will explore 4 flavors of type: Dominant\, Creative\, Normalizing or Harmonizing. (Thanks Dr. Victor Gulenko for these names.) This includes examples from specific types and reference materials that you can use. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDario Nardi \n\n\n\nDario Nardi\, Ph.D. is a renowned author and researcher in neuroscience\, personality\, and body-mind practices. He won Distinguished Teacher of the year in 2011 while at UCLA. His books include Neuroscience of Personality\, 8 Keys to Self-Leadership\, Jung on Yoga\, The Magic Diamond\, and other titles. He created the Personality Types iPhone app and the Cognitive Processes Assessment of 8 Jungian functions. Since 2006\, Dario has conducted hands-on brain research\, utilizing insights of real-time EEG technology. SUMMARY:Talking Theory Together - Richard Owen
DESCRIPTION:With a divergence of type theory between Jung\, MBTI and many individual experts in the field\, is there a way to create a cohesive revised narrative to carry type forward into its second century? Can we successfully reintegrate with mainstream personality psychology? How can type be reinterpreted and positioned in a way that makes it more acceptable to critics? Richard will discuss several key issues in type theory and some of his proposed solutions to them. \n\n\n\nRichard Owen\n\n\n\nRichard Owen \n\n\n\nBAPT Treasurer Richard Owen is an organisational psychologist and coach based in Brighton\, UK. A broad theorist of Type: from Jung to MBTI®\, to the depth typology of Dr John Beebe. Richard’s Personality Parts™ model aims to uniquely integrate these and many other perspectives. \n\n\n\n\nThis session is part of the AusAPT Online 2021 Conference. SUMMARY:Friend or foe? The Inferior Function - Angelina Bennet
DESCRIPTION:The inferior function – sometimes called the 4th function – is one of the most fascinating aspects of our psyche. It is often overlooked as it does not feature in our type code and it tends to be regarded as the “not me” side of our personality. Yet it has an almost continuous presence in our everyday lives. Many people are familiar with Naomi Quenk’s ‘In the Grip’ theory\, in which the inferior function erupts during stress; however\, it makes its presence felt in many other situations\, although we may not consciously be aware of it. In this session\, I will invite the audience to consider the different roles that their inferior function takes in their lives\, and how it can be a hindrance\, a source of negative perception\, a haven\, a source of excitement\, and a gateway for development. \n\n\n\nAngelina Bennet\n\n\n\nAngelina BennetAngelina is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Director of Type Pro\, a Type practitioner’s training organisation\, with over 20 years’ experience with Type. She is the author of The Shadows of Type: Psychological Type over seven Levels of Development\, and is considered to be a thought-leader in the development of Type theory. Angelina has presented at many UK and International Type Conferences including BAPT\, EAPT\, APTi and AusApt. She was the President of the British Association for Psychological Type (BAPT) from 2011-2017. \n\n\n\n\nThis session is part of the AusAPT Online 2021 Conference. SUMMARY:Motivation in the age of uncertainty - Catherine Stothart
DESCRIPTION:Feeling motivated is an essential part of mental health and well-being but many people do not know what really motivates them or how to sustain their motivation. Temperament theory is a perfect tool to help our clients connect to their sense of purpose. But motivation is also about persistence and resilience. Catherine will share an approach to motivation which links temperament theory to academic theories of motivation. In temperament groups\, we will explore the beliefs that can act as accelerators or brakes on our performance and work out strategies for persistence and resilience which fit with who we are. By bridging the gap between the temperament lens of type and academia we can bring the benefits of both worlds to our clients to enable them to live more fulfilled lives. This creates a powerful combination for practical action to sustain our motivation and well-being in our uncertain world. The session will be interactive with break out groups and activities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCatherine Stothart \n\n\n\nCatherine Stothart is a Leadership Coach with Airbus and a partner in Google’s Mastery Faculty of virtual facilitators. She has coached and trained hundreds of managers in the private sector to develop their leadership and communication skills. She also works with schools and colleges. Catherine is the author of ‘How to Get On with Anyone’ (2018\, Pearson) – based on Interaction Styles\, it’s a guide to building better relationships with others. She is a Fellow of the CIPD\, has an MSc\, and is currently BAPT’s Director of Events. \n\n\n\nThis session is part of the AusAPT Online 2021 Conference. SUMMARY:Mindset Shift – Evolving Our Conversations About Individuation - Katherine W Hirsh
DESCRIPTION:Type has great potential as a self-awareness tool\, yet this frequently remains untapped because its users struggle to answer the “So What?” and “Now what?” questions\, missing the chance to relate type theory to people’s lives. Part of what’s needed may be a deeper understanding of type\, however we also frequently underestimate the barriers to increasing self-awareness and enacting behavior change. \n\n\n\nI will describe three mindsets that can derail our efforts. Mindset one involves believing people need to know why they should do something\, rather than showing them the negative outcome if they fail to make a change. Mindset two entails believing external motivations for growth and change\, couched in terms of control and compliance\, are more effective than internal motivations expressed in terms of mastery and engagement. Mindset number three hinges on the belief in a zero-sum world where individuation is an outcome to be reached\, rather than an ongoing journey to be navigated. \n\n\n\nKatherine W Hirsh\n\n\n\nKatherine W Hirsh \n\n\n\nDr Katherine W Hirsh is co-founder of Hirshworks\, a source of information and inspiration for all things type-related; and a principal in Step Research. As a thought leader\, Katherine is devoted to working with clients worldwide to improve performance\, increase engagement and foster development. Type has entranced her for over thirty years. Katherine lives in Germany and works globally\, consulting with clients to build leadership\, teamwork and decision-making skills\, promote a growth mindset and increase personal and professional satisfaction. \n\n\n\nThis session is part of the AusAPT Online 2021 Conference. SUMMARY:Goldilocks and the 8 Cognitive Processes - Sue Blair
DESCRIPTION:Assumption: The perfect human being has not yet been created. Even Mary Poppins said she was only “practically perfect” (in every way!!!) So\, how\, why and where do we go wrong and what can we do about it? The truth is that we all use all of these functions\, but we tend not to use each of them equally well. There is a time and energy component to their use and\, for some\, use of a function is habitual and for others it is momentary. In this session we put the Goldilocks Theory to the test. We will take a look at each of the cognitive processes\, define them and then suggest ways in which we can use each of them ‘too much’\, ‘too little’ and (on a good day) ‘just right’. There is no better place than a Type conference to gather our combined wisdom and learn from each other about what it is really like to be us. A place where we honour diversity and practice inclusivity. We will learn\, laugh and leave enlightened. \n\n\n\nSue Blair\n\n\n\nSue Blair Sue has been working with psychological type for 20 years. She is an international presenter and keynote speaker\, as well as a qualified MBTI practitioner and adult educator. She is the author of The Personality Puzzle coaching cards\, now used worldwide by coaches and counsellors. SUMMARY:Soul-making Work in Dark Times: A Jungian View - Suzanne Cremen
DESCRIPTION:Drawing on Jungian depth psychology\, this session outlines a new approach to questions of work\, career and calling in the current era\, through engaging with symbol\, metaphor and imagination. Traditional career development practices tend to be biased towards Sensation and Thinking functions. Bringing a symbolic perspective to work can awaken imagination and shift perception of the vocational journey as more than a paycheck\, but an opus of the soul. Individuals with a preference for Intuition are particularly suited to a vocational guidance approach which values the creative unconscious and imaginative potential\, but at different life stages this approach may be valuable for all psychological types. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSuzanne Cremen  Dr Suzanne Cremen worked in over 25 occupations including lawyer\, screenwriter\, publisher and career counsellor before earning her PhD in depth psychology.
